cortex / corteccia

cortex / corteccia is an immersive and performative sound work that unfolds as a living installation, where sound emerges through contact with wooden surfaces.

The wood becomes an activator, a responsive body that reacts to human presence and interaction, revealing intimate and layered sonic landscapes.

Cortex, the bark as the first surface of contact, an external skin, both protective and receptive, a living membrane. The cortex is the threshold where the first contact takes place, physically and emotionally: a delicate space where the inside and the outside converge. In this ambiguity, the cortex becomes a filter, a shield, a defensive barrier, or a communicative bridge.

The piece delves into this tension: what we choose to reveal, what we choose to protect. The wooden surface, the sole means of sound activation, becomes both symbol and medium of this threshold where Its materiality evokes a yearning for simplicity and grounding.

A return to the primal gesture of touch, sensing through the skin, communicating without intermediaries
